Tom Cruise Is Definitely Will Be Part of Top Gun 2

Top Gun 2 has been in the works for almost a year now, although there is no confirmation that Tom Cruise will be involved in the sequel until now. Here's what the actor had to say about why he became involved in the project.

"I said to Tony (Scott) I want to make another movie with him. He and I haven't made a film since Days of Thunder. Tony and I and Jerry (Bruckheimer), we never thought that we would do it again. Then they started to come to us with these ideas of where it is now. I thought, 'Wow, that would be ... what we could do now.'"

Top Gun 2 Gets Its Writers

Paramount Pictures has hired screenwriters Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz (Thor, X-Men: First Class) to write Top Gun 2, which Jerry Bruckheimer is producing.

No plot details have been officially released yet, but director Tony Scott indicated last year that the sequel will revolve around a group of young Air Force pilots, who fly remote-controlled drone planes from a command center. The story was inspired by a chance meeting the director had with one of these young pilots on a commercial flight.

There is still no word if Tom Cruise or Val Kilmer will reprise their roles as Maverick and Iceman. It isn't known when production will begin on Top Gun 2, but it seems to be moving in the right direction.

Top Gun 2 Is Underway, but it's not a sequel!

Top Gun is one of those successful Tom Cruise movie that we will never forget. After all, Aviator glasses became such a trend because of this movie.

MTV Movies Blog spoke with Top Gun 2 director Tony Scott, who revealed that the movie isn't actually a sequel, but a "re-thinking" of the first Top Gun movie. Here's what he told the site below:

"It's not even a reinvention, it's not even a sequel. It's a re-thinking. What inspired me is that the world today is great, it's so different from the world we touched originally. It's really run by guys sitting in Nevada on computers playing war games."

When asked if Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer will reprise their roles as Maverick and Iceman in the new movie, Tony Scott didn't give a definitive answer:

"I'm gonna withhold that information. I can't say anything. I'm talking with Jerry Bruckheimer, and I'm going to withhold [those other details]."
